Parish Selection Committee

UPDATE / FEBRUARY 26, 2017

The Parish Selection Committee is pleased to invite you to a Parish Forum on Sunday, March 12 following the 10:00 am service.

We plan to be finished at 1:00 pm and a light lunch will be served. The Committee is currently preparing a parish profile as part of our search for a new Rector. We are seeking input on sections about "who we are" and "what we want to be". Your participation is important to us and we hope to see you there. If you can't attend, not to worry, as we are also providing parishioners with an on-line survey. If we do not have your email address, please provide it to the office to be sent a survey. If you have any questions, please contact a member of the Parish Selection Committee.

In September, Rector Kevin Robertson was elected suffragan bishop for the Diocese of Toronto and will begin his duties on January 1, 2017. As a result, the search is underway for Kevin's replacement and Christ Church Deer Park's thirteenth rector in our 146-year history.

We will be following the requirements for Clerical Appointments as described in Canon 10 of the Diocese of Toronto's Constitution and Canons. The first task was be the formation of an eight-person Parish Selection Committee (PSC)made up of the churchwardens and five parishioners.

Members of the Parish Selection Committee (PSC) are Jesse Billet, Barbara Johnston, Carolyn Kearns, George Lewis, Edna Quammie, Andrew van Nostrand, Su Laine Varkey, and Henry Zaluski.

Everyone has a role to play in the discernment and selection process. In March, we plan to survey the congregation and hold a special forum to help develop our parish profile, which will be shared with all interested candidates.

We are energized by the challenge ahead of us as we go forward, inspired by the words we every say Sunday: Glory be to God, whose power working in us can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine.

Role of the Parish Selection Committee (PSC)

In the Diocese of Toronto, Incumbents and Priests-in-Charge are appointed by the Area Bishop. The role of the PSC is to recommend to the Bishop the candidate who they have discerned best matches the aspirations and needs of their parish at this time.

Outline of the Selection Process

Working with a diocesan appointed Coach the PSC:

  • seeks to develop a deeper awareness and nderstabding of the parish and its community in order to discern God's call to mission
  • prepares a Parish Profile that accurately describes the present reality of the mission and ministry in the parish and that articulates a realistic vision for its future
  • recieves the names of suitable candidates from the Bishop and engages in a process to discern which candidate will be the best fit for the parish
