Explore Advent through the stories of Zechariah and Elizabeth, Mary, the journey to Bethlehem and the visit from the Magi. Written and presented by Dr. Amy-Jill Levine, Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies at Vanderbilt Divinity School, the internationally renowned scholar and teacher breaks open the birth narratives for us to engage in rich Advent discussions. Through videos and conversations, we will explore the relationship of the Gospel stories to the Old Testament, the role of women in first-century Jewish culture, the importance of Mary’s visitation and the revolutionary implications of Mary’s Magnificat, the census and the stable, the star of Bethlehem and the flight to Egypt. In Light of the World, Levine’s focus is to understand Jesus in his historical context and within his own religious tradition, Judaism. Please join us for an exciting journey of faith this Advent.
